Boar canal originates from Boar River and named after it as Boar Canal. This historical canal was built by Sir Henry Ramsay in 1860 for cooling iron at Kumaon Iron Works. It is an engineering marvel, running over a stretch of 8.6 kms and irrigates about 20 villages of this region.
This beautiful canal has several interesting features. At times it goes underground while at some places it goes over a stream. It has small ghats made all along and has three panchakki (water-driven flour mills) on it. A walk along the canal with Sal and Semal trees is mesmerizing. |
