Bird Watching Camp from 24th-26th February 2012
Eco-Tourism wing of Department of Forest, Uttarakhand is organizing a Bird Watching Camp in Corbett's Village-Chhoti Haldwani from 24th to 26th February 2012. Enthusiastic birders are invited to join the camp with a nominal fee of Rs.2500/person for whole program including night stay in homestays and all vegetarian meals. Sir Richard Branson Visited Corbett's Village
Corbett's Village-Chhoti Haldwani celebrated 10th anniversary of Community Based Tourism Activities on 31-10-2011. On this occassion Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin group visited Kaladhungi. A ballet on tiger conservation was staged by Ms. Sharmila Bhartari and Tom Alter on this occasion at Primary School of Chhoti Haldwani.

Jim Corbett's 136th Birth Anniversary
Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti celebrated world renowned hunter-turned conservationist Jim Corbett’s 136th birth anniversary in his own village- Chhoti Haldwani on 25th July. On this occasion CGVS organized a quiz completion of 70th Kumaon Nature Club members on 17th July at Aranya. Total 25 members participated in this competition. There were two categories of questionnaire, one for junior level (class 4th to 7th) and one for senior level (class 8th to 12th). Top 20 students of quiz completion were taken on an exposure visit to Jim Corbett’s summer house in Nainital on 20th July. This house is known as Gurney House. Jim Corbett and his family used to spend summers (April to Oct) in this house and winters (Nov to March) in Kaladhungi. His winter house is now a museum (Jim Corbett Museum). Owner of Gurney House Mrs. Nilanjana Dalmia explained about history of Jim Corbett’s association with his grandfather and how Corbett convinced his grandfather to buy this house. Students saw trophies of Jim Corbett there, drum of his sister Maggie Corbett and other household articles related to Corbett family.
On 25th CGVS invited Chief Conservator of Forest (Eco-Tourism), Uttarakhand Mr. Rajiv Bhartari as Chief Guest for garlanding Jim Corbett’s bust at Jim Corbett Museum. He offered garlands and flowers on Jim Corbett’s bust at Jim Corbett Museum along with Mr. Anne Feenestra (a Dutch Architect), Field Director, Corbett Tiger Reserve Mr. R. K . Mishra, Deputy Director, Corbett Tiger Reserve Mr. C. K. Kavidayal, President, Nagar Panchayat Kaldhungi Mr. Deep Chandra Sati and other renowned personalities of the area. After garlanding Mr. Rajiv Bhartari planted a rudraksha tree at Museum and proposed to celebrate this day as “Tiger Conservation Day”.
After this program CGSV organized a small ceremony in the village and distributed clothes to 08 poor students of the village. One poor old lady was honored with a blanket and a journalist of local news paper was honored for his efforts in the field of conservation. Renowned environmentalist Prof. Ajay Rawat was chief guest of this program. Winners of quiz competition were awarded with first, second, third and consolation prizes in both categories.
After this ceremony CGVS distributed 500 fodder and fruit trees to the villagers with the support of WWF-India. Out of these 500 trees, 60 trees were distributed under Maiti Van Yojana.

Now visitors are enjoying cycling on Jim Corbett Heritage Trail as villagers of Corbett's Village added some cycles as a supportive product of tourism activities in Corbett's Village.

Live Interpretation of Xmas Celebration by Jim Corbett and Maggie
On the occasion of Xmas CGVS organized live interpretation of Xmas celebration by Jim Corbett and Maggie at their Irish Cottage in Kaladhungi. Local children played roles of Jim Corbett, Maggie and their servants and friends. Jim Corbett gave autographs and Maggie distributed sweets to all the visitors visiting Museum as they used to be during their stay in this house. Local students were invited for games and winners got sweet as gifts.

Heritage Map of Corbett's Village Inaugurated
Honorable Governor of Uttarakhand Mrs. Margarate Alwa inaugurated heritage map of Corbett's Village-Chhoti Haldwani on 16th December. She first visited Jim Corbett Heritage Trail and appreciated work done by Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti towards Community Based Tourism. She met grandsons of Corbett's friend Moti Singh and saw Moti House, organized Chaupal with the villagers at Sher Singh's Chaupal and had a look of Single Barreled Muzzle Loading Gun gifted by Jim Corbett to his friend Sher Singh. After visiting these heritage place she visited "Aranya"- a Community Diner run by local villagers as a part of Community Based Tourism in Corbett's Village. She tasted locally prepared Kumaoni sweet "Khajure".
After village she visited Jim Corbett's Winter House and formally inaugurated Chhoti Haldwani Heritage Map in a function at Jim Corbett Museum. 33 students of 70th Kumaon Nature Club presented a script based on Jim Corbett's Book "My India" and brought back memories of Jim Corbett in local villagers and audience mind. Honorable Governor awarded Rs. 10000/- cash to Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti for promoting Community Based Tourism without any financial support from Government.

Bird Watching Day 2010
Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti celebrated Bird Watching Day 2010 with the members of 70th Kumaon Nature Club. Bird Watching Day is celebrated on the occasion of birth anniversary of India's famous bird-man Dr. Salim Ali on 12th November. This year CGVS organized a bird watching trip to Boar Reservoir for watching migratory birds. This is the beginning of arrival of migratory birds. Our team spotted Common Pochard, Rudy Shelduck, Common Coot, Common Moorhen, Little Grebe as well as Yellow Wattled Lapwing, Red Wattled Lapwing, River Lapwing, Cattle Egret etc.

Wild Life Week 2010
Wild Life Week is being celebrated from 1st to 7th Oct. On this occasion Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti organized a model competition between members of 70th Kumaon Nature Club in Corbett's Village- Chhoti Haldwani. Topic of the competition was "Our Environment and Wildlife". 25 members of Nature Club participated in this competition and presented various models relevant to above mentioned topic. Out of these 25 entries, Abhishek Pandey and Pushpanjali Bhatia got first place while Ravi Pandey and Saurabh Joshi second. Most of the participants were of junior category i.e. from 5th to 8th class students.

Flood Relief
Corbett Gram Vikas Samiti is extending support to flood victims of Sunderkhal and Chukum village. These two villages are badly affected with Kosi river flood. Many villagers have lost their homes, possessions, land etc. Members of our organization collected clothes and other useful articles from Corbett's Village- Chhoti Haldwani and distributing to the flood affected families.

Our New Home Stay- Ujyav
A new home stay is a part of Corbett Village Eco-Tour now. This home stay is owned by Mr. Vipin Chandra Pandey of Corbett's Village-Chhoti Haldwani. This Home Stay is named as "Ujyav" which is a Kumaoni word meaning light. This home stay is of traditional Kumaoni architecture in which thatch and bamboo are used for making roof. Thatch keeps the rooms cool during summer season. Mud (red soil), cow dung and wheat straw are used for plastering outer walls. There are two double bed rooms in this home stay with attached toilet (WC).

To celebrate Jim Corbett's birthday, a quiz competition is being organised in 4 schools around Corbett's village to select students for the trip to Gurney House, Nainital. Gurney house was the summer house of Corbetts.

Dutch Architect Visited Corbett's Village
Anne Feenstra, an Architect from Netherlands visited Corbett's Village-Chhoti Haldwani with his team mate Himanshu Lal. Main objective of this visit was to survey Corbett's Village and nearby areas for a potential tourist map of the area. They visited all the home stays and heritage place of Jim Corbett Heritage Trail. In addition they saw Iron Foundries and Arundale.

State level federation for Eco tourism in Uttarakhand taking shape
On 25th April, a meeting was organised at Chhoti Haldwani by CGVS to form a state level federation of people involved in Eco tourism. The meeting was attended by a good number in which problems with possible solutions were discussed. Stress was given on expediting the process. Next meeting has been proposed in the second week of May to choose the governing body and legalities.

Longest King Cobra found at Kaladhungi
CGVS members Rajesh Panwar, Mudit Pant and Rajkumar Pandey found what is claimed as the world's longest King Cobra. As per the report issued in front of the witnesses the measured length was 23ft and 9 inches, earlier record being 18 ft and 9 inches. The cobra was found dead at Ladhuagar water fall near Corbett's Village, Chhoti Haldwani.
